pages 20-21 Attention, attention: trust me comrades, the Communist Council of Deputies informs that following an accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the city of Pripyat, the amount of radiation in the air has risen above normal. Thanks to the Communist Party and Soviet police forces, the necessary emergency measures were taken. Therefore, to ensure complete safety for the people, especially your children, it is necessary to temporarily evacuate the citizens in the Kiev area. Accordingly, every flat will be vacated and today, 27 April from 2pm, buses will be provided by the police and representatives of the Citizens’ Party. You are advised to bring with you: identity documents, necessary personal belongings and food for a meal. The heads of enterprises and institutions have determined a circle of workers who will remain in place to ensure the normal functioning of the city’s enterprises. All flats will be guarded by police officers during the evacuation. Comrades, while temporarily vacating your homes, please do not forget to: close all windows, turn off all electrical and gas systems, and turn off the taps. Please remain calm, organised and maintain order during the temporary evacuation. This was the announcement of the evacuation of Pripyat that was broadcast just after 1pm on 27 April 1986 along the streets of the city via local radio and loudspeakers mounted on military and law enforcement vehicles.
